Often, when we think of a second language, we think of a culture or a nation. Our mind travels back to our school years and skits we had to perform in front of the class. Oh the laughter and fun! Perhaps we think back to when we actually traveled to another country where we found ourselves stumbling for the words to order food or find the restroom. Frustrating, right? English, French, Spanish, German, Latin etc. can all be considered a second language.
I think second languages go beyond cultural communication. Have you ever thought of a trade as a second language? If you have had an engineer or a doctor explain something to you, I bet you had to ask them to speak in layman terms. Maybe you think you understand what they are saying, but the familiar terms can have a different meaning inside of a doctor's head. Like any trade, crochet has its own terminology. Pick up any crochet book and you will likely see the term gauge. Now when I hear the word gauge, I think of a dial with numbers and a needle. What comes to your mind when you hear the word gauge? It can be overwhelming and confusing when first learning a second language. These Second language blog posts are going to try and iron out the wrinkles, so to speak.

This sure has been some crazy weather, hasn't it? I miss having a white Christmas and a chill in the air. It is all rain here right now. I hope you all had a wonderful and safe Christmas with family and friends!
I know you are thinking: What, Valentine's Day? I have barely gotten rested up from Christmas! I just wanted to give you a heads up the orders for Valentine's Day should be placed by February 2nd.
I have recently added a few new character hats: Sponge Bob Inspired, Spiderman Inspired, and Batman Inspired. You can find them in the Character Theme section.
Great news for those of you who do not have PayPal! I am trying out new payment options: money order and check. I will see how smooth these transactions go and see if I want to keep them.
